Nightlife
For a taste of the Lebanese nightlife, Beirut and many coastal cities offer you the chance to unwind with friends, while enjoying the hospitality of the locals.
Beirut has been voted by the New York Times as a top destination in 2009 and is still making headlines in the international media. The prime place to be is Gemayze, a vibrant area lined with old buildings and a variety of restaurants offering Lebanese, American, Mexican, Argentinian, Japanese, Armenian, French and Italian cuisine, as well as eclectic pubs and clubs entertaining visitors with their fervent atmosphere, amazingly mixed drinks, and blasting music for the soul, some of which is played live on selected nights. Gemayze is well known and always packed with locals! For those looking to mingle with Beirut’s young and vibrant local community, the hip and trendy Gemayze is where to be!
You can also take a stroll down Monot Street, in Achrafieh, which still hums with crowds on weekends. Even though it has been eclipsed by Gemayze’s vivacity and diversity, this narrow one-way street is home to some trendy lounges and bars bustling with fun-loving folk. In the heart of the Achrafieh district and downtown Beirut, Crystal, Shah, Element and Buddha Bar are also examples of what fun in a sophisticated way would look like.
Nesting in Beirut are some very prestigious nightclubs, which are considered birds overlooking the city’s gorgeous, breath-taking outskirts. Rooftop clubs such as Skybar (rated as the number one club by the New York Times) and White for example, are quite a hit in Lebanon, complimenting the great weather, and taking Lebanese nightlife to unprecedented heights. Beiruf and Pepper have also taken flight in Beirut as popular clubs for locals and tourists alike! For an after party experience to remember, BO18 is an underground bomb shelter turned night club which stays open until sunrise! One will always remember the feeling of when the roof opens and sunlight is revealed to those inside!
For a more traditional nightlife experience, Hamra Street offers cafes and restaurants with Lebanese music, Lebanese food, and belly dancers which will entertain even the toughest of critics!
If you feel like getting away from the city, Batroun and Jbeil are great places to be, where partying on shores and piers gives your soul a misty club-like experience. Their old streets, which have recently been restored to antique designed restaurants, as well as exclusive pubs and nightclubs, serve as an exotic contribution to your great evening.
On your way, make sure to stop by the famed Casino Du Liban. Located in Jounieh 22Km north of Beirut with an area of 35,00 squared meters, it has 400 slot machines in addition to other games for both first-time gamblers and professional players. If you aren’t feeling too lucky during your visit, you can just enjoy the Casino’s showroom, theatre, nightclub, or its five dazzling restaurants.
If it’s the ocean you are after, than Edde Sands and Oceana are two of Lebanon’s many beach side resorts! With dancing and partying from sunrise to sunset, Lebanese ocean side resorts offer all you need for a fun night on the Mediterranean!
Lebanon has also become popular with international artists, like Dj Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, and most recently Bryan Adams offering a wide array of shows to last throughout the night!
You may think the night is over after clubbing – at least it may be in many countries. But in Lebanon, locals will not go back home before they have their scrumptious Knefeh for breakfast, a Lebanese delight which will leave your taste buds drooling for more, or sitting for an appetizing breakfast of Manakish et al at one of the many branches of the Lebanese bakery Zaatar W Zeit.
