Climate

Bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the west along a 225-kilometre (140 mile) coastline, Lebanon has a moderate Mediterranean climate. And at a mere 10,450Km², the country makes it easy to sun bathe along the sandy and rocky beaches, enjoy the cool breeze of the mountains or even hit the ski slopes on the same day when the weather allows it.

In coastal areas, winters are generally cool and rainy whilst summers are hot and humid. In more elevated areas, temperatures usually drop below freezing during the winter with frequent, sometimes heavy snow; summers are warm and dry.

In ancient times, Lebanon housed large forests of cedars, which now serve as the country's national emblem. The Ehden Natural Reserve is a cedars park in Lebanon’s mountainous region of Arez, which is home to some of the oldest cedars in the world. It is where the flow of good energy surrounds hikers and provides beautiful scenery to those who appreciate beauty. Other natural reserves and striking nature spots such as Al Shouf Cedar Nature Reserve, the Bentael Nature Reserve (Byblos) and the Palm Islands Nature Reserve (Tyr) are great tourist attractions that can serve for a good picnic, camping or hiking trip or even trekking, where one gets to loosen up, relax and enjoy nature.

Blessed with four distinct seasons, Lebanon has something to offer to everybody. Summer (June-November) is made for sun worshippers and water enthusiasts with temperatures along the coast ranging from 20-35°C. Fall (October-November) brings crisp, cool weather to the mountains (5-20°C), while remaining pleasantly warm on the coast and in the South (15-28°C). Winter (December-March) is the time for outdoor sports, with six ski resorts catering to skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels, and kilometers of cross-country skiing and snowshoe trails to be explored. Temperatures fall to below 0°C at night and range from -5°C-5°C during the day. The coast is wet and cool, with temperatures ranging from 10-20°C. In the Spring (April-May), as a result of the winter rain and the melting snow, the scenery comes alive with wildflowers, making spring the prime opportunity for hiking Lebanon's mountain trails and discovering its unique flora and fauna. Temperatures range from 0-15°C in the mountains to 15-25°C along the coast.
